About khwindowfashions

Ever since I can remember I've loved sewing and taking on creative projects. As an adult, I began designing window treatments for family and friends. And in 1995, with the inspiration to continue doing what I loved, the support of satisfied clients and a solid business plan, I founded KH Window Fashions, Inc. My philosophy is simple and based on my early success designing for family and friends. I realized the value and key to my success was truly knowing and understanding my client. I knew their style and what they envisioned and I understood how to incorporate my design ideas with their personal and sentimental accents. The result in each case has been beautiful custom designed interiors that complement their lifestyle. My design talents are proven, and I have worked hard to earn the interior design credentials that allow me to introduce myself to you with industry recognition, professional certifications and industry resources needed to deliver custom design services, brand products and expert craftsmanship. With you in mind, I'll make the custom selections available to me as a professional interior designer and bring you design choices in answer to your style- all from the comfort of your home. KH Window Fashions, Inc. is founded on the belief that good design starts with good relationships. By your invitation I'll get to know you with the same respect and understanding as given my early clients- and you'll soon be surrounded by the décor that is uniquely you.

Smart Shades, Smart Home

One of my favorite parts of working with so many wonderful clients is watching the trends in window treatments and hardware. Lately, I’ve noticed more and more people embracing a thrilling innovation in window blinds and shades: powerview motorization. With motorization, homes are safer for children and pets while enabling smart home technology to bring the house one step closer to the future.

Motorized shades and blinds are incredibly easy to install, operate, and maintain. Plus without cords to tangle, danger to children and pets are eliminated. Beyond that, however, is the newfound ease and convenience in adjusting blinds or integrating the motorization window coverings with smart home technology, such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google Home.

Look below to learn more about powerview motorization and how it can bring your home into the future!

Powerview motorization is remarkably easy to control and automate. Through the powerview app (compatible on any device), you can lift or lower shades with just the swipe of a finger. Plus, the app allows you to create “Scenes,” which are favorite positions for the shades, and you can automate those Scenes to operate on their own throughout the day.

Beyond simple automation, you can link your shades with the sunrise or sunset, allowing them to shift at the exact perfect moment every day. They operate on your schedule, and can be controlled even when you’re not home.

The powerview app is not the only way to control your shades and blinds with motorization. Pebble Control is a modern alternation to a remote control and allows you to create automated settings for up to six groups of window coverings. Stylish and sleek, it’s available in many different colors to enhance the decor of any room.

Remote Connect allows you to modify your shade settings anywhere in the world. Whether in the office, at home, or on vacation, you can always operate your shades.

And now, with seamless integration with other whole-system automation systems, such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and more, powerview motorization brings you one step close to a fully automated and smart home. Contact me today to set yours up!

Survive Summer with Sunbrella

Summer is an amazing season, filled with adventure and fun. It’s the perfect time for  outdoor BBQ’s, pool parties  with the kids, and days spent basking in the sun. It is also the perfect time to introduce Sunbrella fabric.

Sunbrella fabric is the premier option for durable, stain resistant outdoor fabric, and they’ve recently introduced an indoor line boasting those same benefits. Especially fantastic for houses with kids or pets, Sunbrella can handle the wear and tear of an exciting summer and still be ready for the next season. So if you’re concerned about your indoor or outdoor furniture surviving the summer, Sunbrella is the perfect choice for you.

What is Sunbrella?

Sunbrella is the world’s leading performance fabric. Founded in the 1960s on the belief that fabric should be both beautiful and functional, it has grown into a household name for both indoor and outdoor uses. Sunbrella fabric is extremely durable and offers a five year warranty for upholstery and a ten year warranty for shade and marine fabrics. Plus Sunbrella is environmentally sustainable.

Outdoor Fabric

UV resistant, Sunbrella has received the Skin Cancer Association Seal of Recommendation. Plus, it is fade resistant, water resistant, mold and mildew proof, and highly cleanable. It is the perfect choice for outdoor furniture, awnings, outdoor umbrellas, and boat cushions and covers.

Indoor Fabric

Sunbrella also works well for indoor fabrics. The same durability that makes it ideal for outdoor spaces comes in handy indoors, protecting your furniture from spills, pets, and children. Boasting a wide variety of colors, prints, and Textures, Sunbrella fabric is perfect for sofas, curtains, cushions, and more.

Cleaning Sunbrella

Sunbrella fabric can be easily maintained through the occasional cleaning, which can be completed in a few simple steps:

  1.   Brush off loose dirt
  2. Spray a cleaning solution of water and mild soap
  3. Use a soft bristle brush to clean
  4. Allow cleaning solution to soak into fabric
  5. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed
  6. Air dry

However, the durability and color strength of Sunbrella fabrics mean that they can be cleaned even with bleach solutions, and the fabric retains its integrity and color.

Interested in Sunbrella? Please contact me. I’d be happy to show you the latest fabric collections. The possibilities are endless!

Clear the Clutter

Spring is on the way!

As we finally see warm weather for the first time in months, I am filled with the urge to dive headfirst into spring cleaning. Nothing welcomes in the new season like cleaning and de-cluttering your space, and I find I’m always more in love with my house when I’ve cleared out the clutter that’s built up over a long winter.
But clearing out the clutter can be a huge, overwhelming job for a lot of us. Below are some of my favorite tips for getting rid of the mess, organizing a space, and welcoming in Spring with a clutter-free home!

Five Tips to Clear the Clutter

Identify the Problem Areas
Bedrooms, kitchens, closets, and living rooms typically gather the most clutter. Figure out where your biggest messes are so you can fix them.
Make a Plan
Decide on an approach. Experts suggest either choosing a room or a category to start tackling clutter. Perhaps the kitchen is in most need of a clearing, or you’re finding unnecessary knickknacks littering every surface. Pick what you want to tackle and then make it manageable. Only de-clutter for fifteen or thirty minutes at a time. If you carve out a small chunk of time every day, you’ll have an organized house in no time.
Create Piles
As you sort through the clutter, create four piles: Keep, Donate/Sell, Trash, Belong Elsewhere (for the things that belong in another room). Place everything in the appropriate pile, and don’t be afraid to get rid of things! It’s easier to keep the clutter under control when you have less odds and ends to create clutter.
Bins, Bins, Bins
Here at KH Window Fashions, we love containers and organizational systems to give each item its place. If every item has a home, your only job is to put it back when you’re done with it, which takes a lot less time than sorting through chaotic messes to find something when you need it later. Check out some of the cool ways to store your belongings without creating clutter.
Form a Habit
You don’t want to spend every other weekend de-cluttering your home. Once you’ve gone through the hard work the first time, focus on maintaining the organized environment. You’ll be surprised how much an organized home can help inner peace. Make it a habit to avoid clutter, and then you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your beautiful home without feeling stressed.
Good luck!

Bring in the Bold and Beautiful

As we wrap up this strange hot and cold winter, it’s time to invite color back into our lives. The world outside may be dull and gray, but inside, your house can be as bright and as bold as you want.

Exciting colors freshen up a tired space. They can add cheer to both your house and your life. With bold colors and eye-catching accent pieces, a room has energy and warmth. There are so many creative ways to add a vibrant splash of color to your house. Check out a few of my favorite examples below.

Start small! Pick a few bright accent pieces to bring a new feeling to your room. Something like throw pillows or bed linens can reinvigorate a whole room without feeling like a risky investment.

Or, if you’re brightening up a small space, try adding an accent wall in an exciting shade of turquoise or tangerine.

Pick a focal point in the room and use color to draw attention to it. This can be a chair, a wall, an art piece, or even a vase. Use the color wheel to pick a shade that stands out from the other colors in the room.

Feeling bold? Embrace your new color scheme with window treatments or rugs.

It’s all about the contrast. The higher the contrast, the crisper a room feels. Less contrast presents a warmer space. Choose the one that best suits you.

Compliment those bold shades with neutral hues such as white, beige, or black to keep the color from overwhelming. Building on a neutral color lets those exciting accents stand out even more.

Remember, this is your house. Choose colors that make you happy and add cheer to your life. If you find a statement piece that you can’t live without, build the rest of the room around it. Make your home unique and a perfect reflection of you.

Better with Banding

As a Window Treatment Expert for over 22 years, I have the joy of watching design trends come and go. From swags to Roman Shades, from pinch pleats to goblet pleats, I’ve seen it all and I’ve loved watching the fashion change every year. It makes each job special and keeps me on my designing toes.

Right now, bands and trim are a popular way to add a unique touch to any design element in the room. We have books and books of bands and trims in the workroom to outfit pillows, window treatments, ottomans, and even lamp shades. With creative accents like these, the possibilities are endless!

Here is some beautifully unique banding by Samuel and Sons.

I love the way this banding compliments the wall color and adds a funky edge.

The white banding on this table lends a sophisticated element to the tablecloth.

Putting banding on a lampshade is fun and different! I love this one here by Brimar.

This is also a wonderful example of banding that compliments the exciting patterns of this window treatment.

Let me know what your favorite is! There are so many creative ways to incorporate banding. I can’t wait to see which one you like best.

The possibilities are endless!

Introducing the 2017 Color of the Year

Happy New Year!  Every January,  I look forward to writing my newsletter and unveiling to you  the NEW color of the year.  Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has been designating a color of the year to  express in color what is taking place in the global trends. This year, Pantone has embraced nature’s favorite color, Greenery.

Greenery is a color of restoration and renewal. Acting as a true neutral for nature, it promises reassurance while also inviting the chance to rejuvenate. Many people are exhausted after the events of 2016, and Greenery represents the chance to recover and surround ourselves with beauty.

Pantone has pulled this neutral color to the forefront to encourage reconnecting with people and reconnecting with nature. With Greenery, we will find the opportunity to pause, take a breath, and revitalize.

There are many beautiful fabrics and trims to choose from.  Get a window treatment for your bathroom or toss a few new pillows on to your sofa or bed.

Pantone’s Greenery is a truly versatile shade that lends itself to many color combinations. It can be paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, and more.

Watch this shade easily cross over fashion, beauty, fabric, interior design, and graphic design.
